Almost the entire biography of the foreign intelligence colonel Alexei Nikolaevich Botyan (1917-2020) is hidden under the heading "Top Secret", but even the little that we know about him would be enough for several action-packed books.

He entered World War II on September 1, 1939, and in the first days of the war, he shot down three Junkers. During the Great Patriotic War, he fought behind the front lines as part of the NKVD task force "Olympus", took part in many daring operations against Nazi troops and the bandit underground in Western Ukraine. He also blew up the Ovruch Gebietskommissariat in September 1943 and saved Krakow from destruction in January 1945, for which he was twice nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, but only in 2007 did he receive the Gold Star of the Hero of Russia. After the war, he worked as an illegal intelligence agent in Europe, and then took an active part in the training of the truly all-powerful fighters of the legendary Vympel Special Purpose Group.
