Self-portrait in the office

This is a poetic essay by one of the main figures of modern intellectual thought Giorgio Agamben (born 1942). Showing his readers the offices in which he had to work, the Italian philosopher tries to build his self-portrait through the things that were there. For Agamben, the only way to talk about himself is to talk about others: poets, philosophers, artists, friends who created his memories and inspired his writing. Therefore, the self-portrait of the philosopher is inextricably linked with Martin Heidegger and his seminars at Le Torah, the books of Hannah Arendt, the Italian intelligentsia and philosophical reflections on the nature of memory, love and writing.
