The book "Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" (1963) was written by Hannah Arendt based on the results of the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann, which took place in Jerusalem in 1961. Hannah attended the trial as a journalist. Studying the trial materials, listening to Eichmann's speeches, Hannah came to the conclusion that the former SS Obershurmbannführer was not some kind of sadist or a person prone to criminal acts. In her opinion, Eichmann was an ordinary office clerk who simply carried out the orders of his superiors.
