A synchronic translator comes to The Hague to work at the International Criminal Court. Her whole life is a series of endless moves, and in the gloomy city by the sea she hopes to finally find a home.
But it's not easy to get close to people for someone who is used to speaking in other people's words, picking up the slightest changes in tone and mood. When she is assigned to work with a former African president accused of crimes against humanity, she does not yet know that this will be a real test for her as a professional.
Her personal life is also colored by drama: the man she has started dating is going through a difficult divorce and doesn't seem ready to finally free herself from the bonds of marriage. All this pushes her to the edge of an existential abyss. And the only way to salvation is to find her own voice.
