St. Theophan the Hermit (in the world Georgy Vasilyevich Govorov; 1815-1894) was a theologian, publicist-preacher. He occupies a special place among Russian preachers and saints of the XIX century. The saint saw his service to the Church of God in the feat of spiritual and literary creativity. "To write," he said, "is a necessary service to the Church. All his pastoral activity he devoted to explaining the way of true Christian life, based on spiritual gathering. Theophanes the Hermit left a huge theological legacy: works on the explanation of the word of God, translated works, works on ascetics and psychology. His writings amaze with their encyclopedic breadth and diversity of theological interests. The main theme of St. Theophanes' works is salvation in Christ. This theme became the defining theme in the teachings that made up the book "What is Spiritual Life and How to Tune in to It?".
