Boris Vasilyevich Bedny is a Soviet writer, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who worked as a teacher at the Literary Institute, where he taught seminars at the Higher Literary Courses (many famous writers, such as Chingiz Aitmatov, were among his students). Boris Bedny gained fame thanks to his story "Girls", which was translated into fifteen foreign languages and served as the basis for the film of the same name. Everyone in Russia is familiar with the film "Girls", directed by Yuri Chulyukin and starring Nadezhda Rumyantseva. The funny comedy about love in a lost lumberjack village in the Urals not only captivated audiences across the Soviet Union, but also won several prestigious prizes at foreign film festivals. The story "Girls", however, differs from the famous film in many ways: the characters are revealed more deeply, the harsh life in the remote village is shown much more realistically, and even the plot contains significant differences. In addition to the story "Girls", Boris Bedny wrote many short stories (some of which were filmed), as well as the story "The Big Stream" (1952). This edition includes a complete collection of works by the remarkable classic of Russian prose.
