In his poem Aeneid, Virgil tells the story of the son of the Trojan prince and goddess Venus, whose descendants, Romulus and Remus, will found Rome. And while Aeneas, like Odysseus, wanders around the world with his companions, eludes the sea monsters of Scylla and Charybda, fights with harpy, one-eyed Cyclops and descends into the realm of the dead. The second part of the Aeneid is in many ways comparable to Homer’s Iliad. Aeneas arrives in Italy, as fate has written for him, and enters into long wars with the local tribes.
The collection also includes a series of poems “Bukolika”. In them, Virgil shows pictures of idylls in the bosom of nature and the serene life of shepherds. This utopian world is contrasted with the war raging in the real world.
In the poem "Georgics" each book is devoted to a particular type of agriculture: the first - agriculture, the second - horticulture, the third - cattle breeding, and the fourth - beekeeping.
