The Philosophy of Names. The Thing and the Name

"What is in my name", "a rose smells like a rose, call it a rose or not" - the problem of the connection between a thing or a living being and their names (names) has worried mankind for thousands of years. Does it exist? And if so, what does it consist in?
In his classic work "The Philosophy of Name", first published in 1927, the great Russian philosopher turns to the commonality and opposition of materiality, concreteness and idea - that is, meaning and essence - embedded in material things. Like the beginnings of yin and yang, all things combine fact and symbol - expression. And if the phoneme of a name belongs to the category of materiality, then its inner content represents the meaning, turned, as the philosopher puts it, to the "other".
