"The Russian Shakespeare," "The Columbus of Zamoskvoretsky"—those are the names playwright Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky was called by his contemporaries. A creator of the Russian national repertoire, he brought to the stage a whole gallery of distinctive characters.
