The story "The Icon" is a fictional retelling of a true story that took place in the USSR in 1956. A young woman named Vera, a Komsomol member and staunch atheist, hosted a celebration at her home during the Nativity Fast. She invited friends and her boyfriend. Time passed, and her beloved Nicholas was nowhere to be seen. The guests paired off, music and laughter erupted. Everyone was having fun. But not Vera. "Well, since my Nicholas isn't here, I'll dance with Nicholas the Wonderworker!" The girl shone an icon of St. Nicholas from a shelf and began dancing, embracing the icon. And then a miracle happened... Despite the authorities' best efforts to hush up what happened next, people eventually learned of the miracle... You will learn about it too if you read the story.
