In the first paragraph of his book, Günter Wermusch modestly notes that he did not set out to write a history of counterfeiting, but only wanted to describe the most striking scams with counterfeit money. But his stories about these scams formed into a coherent text, and as a result (hardly beyond the will of the author) just and turned out to be a history of counterfeiting, which found a place and the knaves of ancient times, and medieval swindlers, and took over the baton from them fraudsters of the XX century. Vermushu is not interested in the usual crooks. His heroes - this skillful engraver, able to repeat any stamp, a brilliant inventor, years to lead the police by the nose, the crowned swindlers, who, of course, they do not consider themselves as such, but without shame ordered to mint "gold" and "silver" coins with a base of copper, and even a group of combiners, almost bought with the help of counterfeit banknotes central bank of an entire European country.
