Luigi Capuana (1839–1915) was an Italian writer, storyteller, critic and journalist, one of the founders of the verismo movement in Italian literature. Twelve wonderful Italian fairy tales by this author, included in this edition, are decorated with illustrations by three masters of drawing: Konstantin Spassky, Enrico Mazzanti and Eugenio Cecconi.

This edition presents his magical stories about good fairies and majestic kings, terrible cannibals and formidable robbers. Their translation into Russian, edited by the writer, playwright and publicist Maxim Gorky (1868–1936), was performed by the actress and translator Maria Andreeva (1868–1953).
