Dong Xi (b. 1966), a native of Guangxi in southwest China, chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Writers' Union, employee of the Guangxi University of Nationalities, laureate of China's main literary awards. Author of the novels "A Sounding Slap" (1997), "Repentance" (2005), stories "Life Without Words" (1996), "Don't Ask Me" (2000), "Guess Until the End" (2002), numerous short stories and screenplays. The heroes of Dong Xi's works are ordinary people from the very bottom, desperately fighting for a place in the sun and faced with the injustice of modern society.
The harsh realism of Dong Xi's works is subtly shaded by black humor and an ironic to the point of absurdity plot. The psychological detective story "Echo" (2021) was not only a new breakthrough in Dong Xi's work, but also a bright event in the literary life of China. In his text, the author innovatively intertwines two stories - the investigation of a brutal murder and the twists and turns in the personal life of a female investigator. The novel immerses the reader in the real life of today's China with all its economic achievements, social contradictions, erosion of family values, ruthless crime and self-denial of law enforcement officers.
