In post-war London, a young writer, Juliet, is trying to find a plot for a new book, but she has absolutely no desire to write about the horrors of war, and other topics seem either boring or inappropriate. Chance comes to the rescue - in the form of a letter from a pig farmer on the island of Guernsey. It turns out that even pig farmers love to read, and the unknown Dawsey, who has come across a book that once belonged to Juliet, asks to recommend a good bookshop. Books are in short supply in Guernsey now, since the island was occupied by the Germans during the war. This is how the correspondence, or rather, a novel in letters, begins between Juliet and the islanders.

The story of a book club that became a cover for forbidden meetings of villagers captivates and draws her in. The story, which began as a plot for a new book, will soon turn into her own story... This sad and cheerful novel is about wartime, but it is full of sun, light and joy. But who said that death and horror should always come first? Sometimes even they give in to a sense of humor and optimism.

There is a wonderful phrase in the novel that fully applies to him: "Good books completely discourage the desire for bad ones." "The Guernsey Literary and Guernsey Pie Society" is not just a good book, it may be the best thing you will read in a long, long time.
