In 1991, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, which had led the country for over 70 years, collapsed unexpectedly for the vast majority of people in our country and abroad. This is often attributed to bribery of leaders, the actions of Western intelligence agencies, and other conspiracy theories. The period of Perestroika remains misunderstood by many of our contemporaries.

The book "The End of the History of the CPSU" rejects such theories. It examines the internal causes of the defeat of the CPSU and the USSR. Their tragic end was brought about by the leadership's policies aimed at restoring capitalism, which combined with the processes of "reverse class formation" that had been latently brewing in Soviet society for decades.

The authors, Perm historians Alexander Chernyshev and Vitaly Sarabeev, analyze the state of the CPSU in the second half of the 1980s as a political force losing power and explain the logical nature of its demise. At the same time, conclusions are drawn for the future, which are necessary both for Russia and for the revival of the communist idea on a global scale.
