The historical novel "The Corsairs of Ivan the Terrible" recounts the reign of Ivan the Terrible, marked by a fierce struggle for access to the Baltic Sea, which would pave the way for free trade and prosperity for the state. In the second half of the 16th century, the situation in Rus' reached its breaking point. The treasury was depleted by the protracted Livonian War, the Crimean Khan Devlet Giray was raiding the Russian land from the south, famine and plague raged in the central regions of the country, and in Moscow, Tsar Ivan the Terrible was engaged in brutal reprisals against his enemies—real and imagined. During this difficult period, Swedish and Lithuanian ships blockaded Narva, an important trading port. To combat maritime robbery, the Tsar recruited the Danish sailor Carsten Rode, who was tasked with creating a Russian corsair fleet. A gripping interweaving of events and destinies awaits the reader within the book's pages. Formidable tsarist oprichniks and simple peasants, brave warriors and sailors, the Stroganov merchants, who were paving new trade routes and developing new lands in Siberia, expanding the borders of the Russian state—the novel's heroes have a long journey ahead of them.
