Nikolai Semyonovich Leskov (1831-1895) is a classic of Russian literature of the 19th century. He traveled a lot around the country, communicated with ordinary people. This gave the future writer the invaluable knowledge of real Russian life and its way of life, which he displayed in his work.

"The Tale of the Tula lefthander and the steel flea" was first printed in the magazine "Rus" in 1881.This work of N. S. Leskov was destined to become outstanding. Many readers believed that this is a real folk tale, which has no author. The image of a left-handed man became a nominative, just like the expression "forging a flea". Long before the creation of the work, N. S. Leskov had a special notebook, in which he wrote down all kinds of dialect and distorted words heard in the people.
