The book is devoted to the cold and firearms of Russian military sailors of the XVIII-XX centuries. In fact, for the first time in Russian practice, a brief encyclopedia of the main patterns of edged and firearms of sailors and officers of the fleet, coastal services and marines is compiled.
The materials for the book were documents from the collections of federal archives, normative acts and other published sources, as well as authentic weapons kept in state museums and private collections. The time of creation and adoption, brief description and distinctive features are given for each weapon, the main stages of development and modifications are listed.
Along with personal weapons of sailors, the book briefly describes the items of boarding armament, which has been very little described in the literature so far. Specimens of award and prize weapons are described separately. Special attention is paid to naval dirks, which from the beginning of the XIX century and up to our time were and remain one of the symbols of the fleet.
The book is provided with rich illustrative material - historical drawings, drawings and photo-documents, as well as photographs of weapons from museum and private collections, a significant part of which is published for the first time.
