This two-volume edition combines William Shakespeare's iconic tragedy Macbeth with a comprehensive illustrated album that reveals its centuries-long artistic history. The first volume includes three Russian versions of the play: a new translation by G. M. Kruzhkov and the classic interpretations by B. L. Pasternak and Yu. B. Korneev. Each work is provided with its own artistic design, making reading an independent aesthetic experience. The volume's scholarly apparatus includes articles by A. N. Gorbunov, N. E. Mikeladze, and E. A. Pervushina, as well as extensive commentary by V. S. Makarov. They immerse the reader in the historical, cultural, and literary context of the tragedy: the era of the Gunpowder Plot, the atmosphere of religious tension, the traditions of demonology, the sources of the plot, and the peculiarities of Russian reception over three centuries.

The supplementary volume unfolds a broad visual history of Macbeth. The first part features works by fourteen European and American artists, created in a wide range of styles—from Victorian graphics and Gustave Doré's engravings to the phantasmagorias of Salvador Dalí and the realistic works of Louis Reed. The second part shows how the images of Shakespeare's heroes have changed over three centuries in painting, sculpture, engraving, and lithography. Macbeth is portrayed at times as a mad tyrant, at others as a tragic and pensive character; Lady Macbeth—at times a fragile noblewoman, at others as a stern and almost demonic figure. The third part brings together portraits and photographs of outstanding actors from the world theater, as well as set designs, prop sketches, and historical costumes. The appendix includes political cartoons and advertising images that demonstrate how the images of Macbeth entered popular culture and became part of the European visual language.

Together, the two volumes create a multidimensional understanding of the tragedy: as a masterpiece of world literature and as a living cultural phenomenon that continues to inspire artists, researchers, and readers for four centuries.
