This book is about things that were commonplace in the past but incomprehensible to us. It's an attempt to systematize information about how people lived in the past, what they ate, how they dressed, what they used in everyday life, and about objects invented by humanity over many centuries but "forgotten" as they were replaced by more advanced ones, or put away in chests because they were no longer needed. Many of these objects have been preserved in the paintings of old masters, in antique shops and markets, and in the collections of museums and collectors.
