Stanislav Vaupshasov (1899-1976) was a Soviet intelligence officer, saboteur, and partisan, and a Hero of the Soviet Union. From 1920 to 1924, he carried out underground intelligence work in Western Belarus (now Poland). From 1937 to 1939, he fought in the Spanish Civil War as an intelligence officer and saboteur. During the Soviet-Finnish War, he helped form reconnaissance and sabotage groups. In 1940-1941, under the pseudonym "Yakov," he served as an illegal intelligence officer in Finland and Sweden. From March 1942 to July 1944, he led the "Mestnye" partisan detachment deployed behind German lines. From December 1946, he became chief of the intelligence department of the Lithuanian SSR MGB. He participated in the fight against the "Forest Brothers." The author spoke about all this in detail and frankly in his “Notes of a Chekist”.
