India, late 1980s. Mukta is still very young, but she is almost at the age when she must undergo the ritual, dedicate herself to the goddess Yellamma, as all women in her lineage have done, and become a temple prostitute, a delight for men. In an attempt to escape her fate, Mukta finds herself in Bombay, in the service of a well-to-do family. In her new life, she not only has security, but also Tara, a friend and named sister who introduces her to an unknown world: ice cream and poetry, midnight conversations and books. But one fateful night, Mukta is kidnapped...the 2000s. More than a decade has passed since Mukta's disappearance. Tara has been living in America for a long time, but she can't let go of her memories and blames herself for what happened. Every day she lives is colored with sadness. And one day she makes up her mind - she returns to India to find Mukta, to understand the secrets of her family and to atone for her long ago deed. Emotional, dramatic and full of optimism, the story of the two girls evokes Khaled Hosseini's famous novel "Running after the Wind". It seems that the fates of Muqta and Tara are predetermined by age-old traditions and the social gulf between them, but friendship, love and the desire to redeem themselves help them to keep hope alive and overcome the impossible.
