Katya devotes herself entirely to raising her young son, Styopa. The boy barely speaks and is afraid of other children and strangers. His entire world is his mother and his beloved toy cars, which he spends hours arranging in neat lines.
Katya's husband, unable to cope with the challenges of fatherhood, leaves, leaving her alone to deal with her son's tantrums. After a series of medical consultations, Styopa is given a questionable diagnosis: autism spectrum disorder.
Unable to find support in the medical reports, Katya decides to fight for her son herself, relying on her mother's intuition.
Katya's story is not one of a child's recovery from autism, but one of finding support and healing from loneliness. "But That's Not Certain" is a heartbreakingly sincere and deeply relatable novel about motherly love and how the most difficult trials can be overcome when you find those who walk alongside you along the same difficult road, and that true happiness is built on love and the ability to accept not only people, but also yourself.
