Kir Bulychev is the second largest figure in Russian science fiction of the 20th century after the Strugatsky brothers. Several generations of readers grew up on his books, and the first reader's love is long-lasting and does not cool over the years. The founder of the Great Guslyar (a kind of analogue of the northern city of Solovets with the famous Research Institute of the History of the Arts and Crafts and its employees), the godfather of Alisa Selezneva, a girl from the future of the Earth, the chronicler of the works and days of Doctor Pavlysh and his friends from the crew of the interplanetary starship "Segezha", a pilot on the Chronos River, connecting the different banks of Russia in time... Kir Bulychev is multidimensional, like life itself, in his literary universe there is room for a humorous prank, and caustic, merciless irony, and the wisdom of a scientist and seer. It has everything except boredom. "The Abduction of the Sorcerer" is a seemingly typical plot about a typical time travel. Yes, the heroes do not act in the Viking Age, as, for example, in Harrison's "Fantastic Saga", they do not pedal the bicycle of time, as in the fairy tale about NIICHAVO by the Strugatsky brothers, but Kir Bulychev told us a very human story about people - some from the future, others from the present - who save people from the past, doomed to death because they outgrew time and made a future for humanity. In "Crane in Hands" there are two spaces - ours and a parallel one. Taking a step from here to there, from one space to another, the heroes find themselves in a world that is outwardly no different from ours, but internally completely alien. The circumstances in which they find themselves put them before a difficult choice: either to cut to the chase, or to leave everything as it is - since the world is alien, then the laws are alien. The choice is up to everyone ... "The City Above". In order to survive after a nuclear catastrophe, the planet's population goes underground, creating a state structure there, where a person is just an inconspicuous cog in the strictest social hierarchy. But somewhere above, there is a city. It is called the city Above. This is a dream city, where those who do not agree with their underground existence strive. How can earthlings, whose expedition ended up here, in this godforsaken world at the far end of the Galaxy, help? And can they?..
