"Praise of Stupidity" can well be called "the international superbestseller of the Renaissance", because immediately after its first publication in Paris in 1511, it survived only in France 7 reprints, and in total was reprinted in different countries during the lifetime of the author more than 40 times. Erasmus himself, who considered his brilliant in form and content satire no more than an amusing literary trifle, was quite amazed by such a resounding success. In the monologue form of the work, the protagonist is Moria (Foolishness), revealing her secrets to the reader, listing her merits, praising herself and, most importantly, mocking many "wise men". In her reasoning about her destiny, she touches upon the issues of art, culture, social structure, and many others.
