Vladimir Markovich Sanin (1928-1989) wrote about people who chose a difficult and dangerous path in life - polar explorers, firefighters, travelers. And he himself belonged to the same restless human race: as a very young man, Sanin managed to take part in the Great Patriotic War, after the war he graduated from the economics department of Moscow State University, worked in a newspaper, became a writer, and visited the Arctic Circle, the Arctic, and Antarctica more than once. The plots of his works are often based on real events, and develop in non-trivial circumstances and closed communities (such as, for example, a ship's crew or an avalanche station). The book includes two stories from the "Call of the Polar Latitudes" cycle: "Seventy-two Degrees Below Zero" (1975) and "For Those Who Are Drifting" (1978).
