Blue Kangaroo includes four colorful stories by British artist Emma Chichester Clark about a little girl named Lila and her best friend, Blue Kangaroo.
In the first story, called "Blue Kangaroo! Ow!", Leela manages to lose her pet three times in three days - on the playground, on the bus, and at the zoo. It's good that there are kind people around who return him to his pet owner. But when Blue Kangaroo learns that Lilya is going to take him with her to the river, his patience comes to an end and he hides from her himself. The whole family searches for Blue Kangaroo - first in the house, then in the garden. And Blue Kangaroo sits quietly in the pocket of Lilya's robe and waits for Lilya to find him. Everything ends safely, but now, if Lilya goes somewhere, she puts Blue Kangaroo in her "bag" on her belt. That way he will never get lost!
In the second story, "It's All Blue Kangaroo!" Lilya blames all her mischief on the Blue Kangaroo. Did someone turn off the faucet in the kitchen? Scared the cat? Hurt Jack's little brother? Threw things out the window? It's all Blue Kangaroo's fault! "If that's the case, let him be alone and think about his behavior," Mom decides and puts Blue Kangaroo on the closet where Leela can't reach him. At night, sitting on the closet, Blue Kangaroo thinks about how he can apologize for himself and Lilya. And one thought comes into his head.....
In the third story, "One, Two, Three! Blue Kangaroo, look!" Lilya does all sorts of things to get attention. And she doesn't listen when they say, "Lilya, stop it! Stop!" And Blue Kangaroo has to watch her antics. In the end, because of another of Lilya's tricks, he turns from a silent spectator into a direct participant. He finds himself in a tree, hanging on a branch, holding on with his last strength, and then he falls off and falls from the height to the ground. There is darkness all around, and a hole on his tail! In the morning, Lilya sees her pet with a bandaged tail and joyfully rushes to him. But Mommy says she won't give her Blue Kangaroo until she sees that Lilya can be good and obedient. All day long Lilya tries to behave, and in the evening she promises Mommy and Blue Kangaroo that there will be no more antics!
In the fourth story, "Blue Kangaroo, Make Me Up a Game!" Lilya draws dinosaurs, gives the stuffed animals a tea party on the lawn, reads Blue Kangaroo a book, saves her toys from the rain, and helps Daddy calm down little brother Jack - and she does it all by herself! And Blue Kangaroo looks at her and thinks, "What a good game!"
Blue Kangaroo is no ordinary toy. He helps Lila, and with her and the little reader, to look at themselves from the outside. And by his example he tells how to act correctly in this or that situation.
