The rag picker Froska and her son Keshka became accidental witnesses to a crime. An escaped convict burst into the apartment of the St. Petersburg moneylender Chvanov and began to demand some kind of medallion from him. The conflict quickly escalated into a brawl, as a result of which the moneylender was killed.
Taking advantage of the moment, the mother and son cleaned out the apartment and got the very medallion that became the cause of the murder.
The boy hid the medallion, not even realizing that this trinket contained part of a secret code and that exactly the same medallion with the second part of the code was now warming itself on the chest of the killer. But before the secret of these decorations is revealed, the boy will have to save his mother... After all, it was she who was arrested by the police, accused of murdering the moneylender.
