Long live Jeddah with a "-da" and another "-da"! Long live the Father of the People! May he rule forever! Yesterday and today, tomorrow and forever. But when his eternity ends—what will happen then?

Old Horse, the longtime leader of Jeddah, is overthrown by his closest allies, and the country breathes a sigh of relief: now there is hope that life will finally improve. Exiles who once fled repression are returning to their homeland, and among them is Destiny Lozikeya Kumalo. A void yawns in her soul, left behind by her dead, whom she doesn't even know existed. However, everyone in Jeddah knows that the dead are not dead.

As often happens, the new boss is no better than the old one: corruption and lawlessness still reign, dissent is still persecuted, and people are exhausted by poverty, unemployment, shortages, and endless queues. But freedom and dignity are worth fighting for, hope is not so easily killed, and the dead speak ever louder...

"Glory," a finalist for the 2022 Booker Prize, is a political novel in the genre of magical realism, a parable, an allegory, a satire, and a breaking news report. It weaves together the voices of folk storytellers and armchair pundits from social media. Echoes of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and Art Spiegelman's "Maus," Gabriel García Márquez's "Autumn of the Patriarch," Junot Díaz's "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," and "BoJack Horseman" resonate here. This story is inspired by events in Zimbabwe, but could happen anywhere.
