The historical and biographical novel "The Death of Vazir-Mukhtar" is dedicated to the final years of the life of Alexander Sergeevich Griboyedov (1795-1829), whose play "Woe from Wit" has become a classic of Russian literature and is still performed on stage. However, the author, renowned writer Yuri Tynyanov, only briefly examines Griboyedov the writer, although the atmosphere of his work permeates the entire work. Much more attention is given to lesser-known chapters of Griboyedov's life: his diplomatic activities (he was one of the architects of the peace treaty between Russia and Persia, and later served as ambassador to that country), his closeness to the Decembrists, his friendship with Pushkin, and his love for two very different women—the ballerina Ekaterina Teleshova and the Georgian princess Nina Chavchavadze, who became his wife.
