Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn is a rare example in modern literature of a writer-tribune, a writer-moralist. His biography included war and camps, the Nobel Prize and persecution, which ended with expulsion from the USSR. The 20 years spent in exile did not break Solzhenitsyn's connection with his homeland - immediately after his triumphant return to Moscow, he joined public life, intensely thinking about "how we can organize Russia." Without softening his expressions, without trying to please those in power, he many times drew fire from criticism from the right and the left, but retained high moral authority and the title of a living classic of modern Russian literature.

His first full biography was written by the famous literary historian L. I. Saraskina based on unique archival documents, conversations with Solzhenitsyn himself and members of his family.
