The General Staff of the Wehrmacht Ground Forces was the most important body of troop management. It developed the strategy and tactics of military operations, through it passed all the issues of "driving the troops". The history of the Chiefs of General Staff is the history of the war between Germany and the USSR 1941-1945. Hitler, choosing a new leader, sought to stop at a man who would not remind him of his predecessor. Therefore, the generals who held the post of Chief of General Staff, were very different. Different were their fates: of the five, whose biographies are given in this book (Ludwig Beck, Franz Halder, Kurt Zeitzler, Heinz Guderian, Hans Krebs), two committed suicide, and three quietly survived the war and have never been prosecuted and never suffered any punishment. But no matter how different these generals were, they all had one goal, which they tried to realize to the best of their ability - to achieve victory for German arms, and above all in the East.
