The second volume of the "Complete Works of the Holy Fathers of the Church and Church Writers" consists of the poems and letters of St. Gregory the Theologian. The themes of the 408 poems presented here touch on theological dogma, Christian morality, and the turbulent events of fourth-century church life, as well as the sometimes complex personal and ecclesiastical relationships of the Nazianzus theologian with his contemporaries. What is particularly valuable is that in his poems, St. Gregory appears before us as a suffering man, revealing in his stanzas the world of his own experiences. A number of poems are being translated into Russian for the first time. His epistolary legacy, consisting of 244 letters written by the saint to various individuals, echoes the thematic diversity of his poetic legacy. Of particular importance are the 101st and 102nd letters to Cledonius, which laid the foundation for Orthodox Christology during the era of the Ecumenical Councils. For the first time in Russian, a translation of the Testament of St. Gregory the Theologian is presented. The Appendix to this volume presents A. V. Govorov's brilliant pre-revolutionary monograph, "St. Gregory the Theologian as a Christian Poet." Furthermore, the reader will find an index of quotations from Holy Scripture, a commented subject index, and a glossary of names and concepts of ancient culture. A significant advantage of this edition, compared to reprinted pre-revolutionary translations of this saint's works, is the first work completed in Russia to restore the numbering of verses and letters to the traditional order of Migne's edition, as well as the generally accepted numbering of stanzas within the poems.
