The second volume is dedicated to the theological legacy of Saint Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, and his contemporary and companion, Saint Amphilochius, Bishop of Iconium. The Church bestowed upon Saint Basil the honorific title "the Great," among other things, for his exceptional contributions to the development of Christian theology and Church Tradition. Saint Basil made an enormous contribution to the formation of Eastern Christian monasticism and, more generally, to the content of Orthodox spiritual life, including his ascetic writings, which most often represent a collection of rules regulating the inner and outer monastic life. This volume contains his moral and ascetic writings, including his treatise "On Baptism," published in Russian for the first time, and his letters. This is the first time such a complete collection of Saint Basil's letters (368 in total) has been published in Russia. In addition to those published before the Revolution (336), it also includes translations of letters addressed to Saint Basil by others, as well as those considered dubious and inauthentic. In his epistolary legacy, the holy father emerges not only as an outstanding Orthodox theologian, a fighter against heresies, a wise archpastor, a subtle church diplomat, a legislator in canon law, and a spiritual leader, but also as the most educated man of his time, an extraordinary and multifaceted personality.
