This book was written by one of the participants of the first Russian expedition to the North Pole under the command of G. Y. Sedov, held in 1912-1914, Nikolai Vasilyevich Pinegin (1883-1940). N. V. Pinegin is an artist, writer, scientist. Thanks to his literary talent, we can get acquainted with the course of this heroic and tragic campaign in the most detailed way. The book also presents photos taken by N. V. Pinegin directly during a trip to the polar latitudes. The publication also includes an essay "70 days of struggle for life" - the story of the transition of V. I. Albanov and his companions on the drifting ice of the Arctic. Albanov was a navigator on the ship "Saint Anna", on which the expedition under the command of G. L. Brusilov wanted to pass along the Northern Sea Route. When the ship was trapped by ice, Albanov and 10 other crew members tried to reach the inhabited land. As a result, when the travelers reached the ship "Saint Fok", which was including N. V. Pinegin, survived only two - Albanov and sailor Konrad. As an appendix, the book contains the biography of Georgy Sedov, the commander of the expedition to the North Pole, who tragically died in the ice of the Arctic.
