The works included in the collection reflect the amazing fate of Viktor Platonovich Nekrasov (1911-1987) - writer, architect, military sapper, emigrant. The story "In the Trenches of Stalingrad" was published almost immediately after the war, in 1946, quickly gained recognition and became one of the first examples of "lieutenant prose" - literature, honestly, without pathos and false pathetics telling about a man in the inhuman conditions of war. The book "In his hometown" (1954) - about how difficult it is to truly return from the war, to rediscover himself. Written already in exile "Little Sad Tale" (1985) - about the loss of illusions, the fragility of friendships and life principles, the temptations of fame. Nekrasov's skill as a prose writer is fully manifested in his psychologically accurate and masterfully written stories.
