This publication is devoted to the actions of the Second Squadron of the Pacific Ocean Fleet, created in April 1904 in connection with the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War to strengthen the First Squadron of the Pacific Ocean Fleet.
The first part describes in detail the formation and preparation of the Second Squadron for the campaign, its composition, the chronology of the transition, as well as the actions of the opposing forces during the Battle of Tsushima, which ended in a catastrophic defeat of the Russian fleet, predetermined by the material weakness of the squadron and the complete unpreparedness of the Naval Ministry to resolve issues of international politics and strategy.
The book analyzes the causes of the defeat, information about the losses and the fate of the surviving ships. A separate chapter is devoted to perpetuating the memory of the heroically perished sailors and ships of the squadron.
The publication uses photographs from the collections of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, the Russian State Archive of the Navy, the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg, the Central Naval Library, the National Historical Museum in Athens and private collections.
