Survive at any cost. German infantryman on the Eastern Front. 1941-1945

A German infantryman describes the path he took along the roads of war from the moment the Wehrmacht troops crossed the Western Bug from Poland to Russia in 1941. The author tells in detail about the heavy fighting near Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, about how, retreating, parts of the German troops burned bridges, cities and villages. In October 1943, Soviet soldiers captured Skeyja. He escaped, and from that day on his wanderings in the rear of the Soviet troops began. However, the intelligence, good education, cunning and resourcefulness of the German infantryman helped him not only to survive, but even to gain the trust of the camp leadership when he was captured again. Many years after the war, Oskar Skeyja's diary fell into the hands of his relative, Dan Chiarello, who processed and prepared the text for publication.
