More than 200 years have passed since the expedition of Faddey Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered Antarctica. Their work was continued by the participants of the first Soviet Antarctic expeditions, who 70 years ago set out for the icy continent to begin its systematic study.

The polar explorers had the opportunity to work in the harshest and most inaccessible areas of Antarctica. They were the first to reach the South Geomagnetic Pole of the Earth and the South Pole of Relative Inaccessibility. They created the first inland scientific stations, explored Central and East Antarctica, and the seas of the Southern Ocean.

This book is about the explorers who discovered and studied the last white spot on the world map, the icy continent, about which almost nothing was known just a few decades ago.
The publication features numerous photographs, paintings, engravings, and sketches telling about the pioneers of Antarctica.
