Alexander Sergeevich Yakovlev (1896-1989) is a legendary Soviet aircraft designer. During the Great Patriotic War, he was the chief designer of the production and design bureau of the Spetsaviatrest of the Aviation Industry, and simultaneously the deputy people's commissar of the aviation industry for new technology. In his memoirs, the author recalls in detail and honestly everything that was connected with the war. Starting from the first days of the war and the air defense of Moscow in the fall of 1941, organizing the production of fighters at a machine-building plant in Siberia and ending with the parade on Red Square in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
