Gennady Aigi (1934–2006), a world-famous poet and translator who wrote in Chuvash and Russian; laureate of national and international awards: the French Academy (1972), A. Bely (1987), F. Petrarch (1993), the Golden Crown of the Struga Poetry Evenings (Macedonia, 1993), B. Pasternak (2000, first laureate), and others. Commander of the Order of Arts and Literature (1998). People's Poet of the Chuvash Republic (1994). He was repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize.
