Alexander Kushner is one of the best lyric poets of the twentieth century, author of fifty books of poetry, a number of essays and articles on classical and contemporary Russian poetry. Kushner's lyricism grew out of the Russian classical poetry of Fyodor Tyutchev, Afanasy Fet, Innocent Annensky, Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Kuzmin, and Osip Mandelstam.
The protagonist of his poetry is the Soul. She is the source of his voice, the beginning of all impressions. Life itself for the poet is a motley ribbon, a string of different meanings and symbols. "Kushner - Laodicean angel of Russian poetry, the very one who introduced happiness in the compulsory program", - said about the poet literary critic Andrei Aryev. The collection "Times do not choose" includes the best poems of the poet.
