Nirmal Purja is a Nepalese mountaineer, former Gurkha, soldier in the elite Special Forces unit of the UK Royal Navy and author of the scandalously famous queue photo on Everest.
In 2019, Nirmal completely turned the mountaineering world upside down by completing the "Project Possible - 14/7" program, which aimed to climb all eight-thousanders in one season, in seven months. By that time, 41 people had climbed all 14 of the world's eight-thousanders, including Reinhold Messner, but Nirmal completed this program the fastest, setting 7 world records, which were entered into the Guinness Book of Records. He spent 177 days on all ascents. As part of the "Project Possible - 14/7" program he climbed Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makala, Nangaparbat, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, K2, Broad Peak, Cho Oyu, Manaslu and Shishabangma.
