The book by the outstanding playwright and prose writer Leonid Zorin (1924–2020) includes notes covering more than half a century, from the 1950s to 1999. According to the author, Green Notebooks is a biography of thought: it contains his reflections, observations, humorous passages, and “words.” Broken down by decades, these notes, which include dramatic inserts, represent Leonid Zorin’s dialogue with time. The brilliant intellect, independence of judgment, wit, and erudition of the author, who listens attentively to the discord of the era, make the book not only a unique commentary on it, but also a literary event.
The first edition of this book, published by the New Literary Review (1999), has become a bibliographic rarity.
