The First and Second Anglo-Boer Wars of the late 19th and early 20th centuries became the first media war in history, when telegraphs and newspapers revealed to the world the savage atrocities committed by the Anglo-Saxons against civilians. Many volunteered to fight on the side of the Boers, who learned to actively employ guerrilla tactics. It can be argued that Boer commanders enriched military science, developing methods that would later be used in the major guerrilla wars of the 20th century.
