In his book, Paul Leverkühn, head of the Istanbul branch of the Abwehr, described in detail the organization's essence, structure, and functions. Initially designed to combat the activities of foreign intelligence services, the Abwehr gradually expanded, establishing intelligence departments outside Germany. Drawing on the stories and recollections of his fellow officers, Leverkühn recounted the most important and characteristic episodes of the Abwehr's work in Poland, the USSR, Scandinavia, and the Middle East: espionage, sabotage, and the acquisition of military and political information. The author also highlighted Admiral Canaris, under whose leadership the Abwehr became the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Wehrmacht.
